Microsoft recently announced that it will require mandatory 2FA login for signing in to its cloud computing platform Azure.
On August 15, Azure compute, principal product manager Naj Shahid and Bill DeForeest said that ” As part of Microsoft’s $20 billion dollar investment in security over the next five years and our commitment to enhancing security in our services in 2024, we are introducing mandatory multifactor authentication (MFA) for all Azure sign-ins.”
As of August 15, Microsoft will send notification of this requirement to all Entra global admins via email and Azure Service Health Notifications.
Currently the mandatory 2FA will be rolled in two phases, the first phase to be rolled in last quarter of 2024 will require mandatory 2FA sign-in for Azure Portal, Entra Admin Center and Intune Admin Center. The second phase rolling out in early 2025 will cover more of Azure tools.
What is 2FA sign-in
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) sign-in is a security method that adds an extra layer of protection to your accounts. Instead of just entering a password, 2FA requires you to provide a second form of identification, like a code sent to your phone. This makes it much harder for hackers to access your account, even if they have your password, ensuring your information stays safe.
